Put simply, Orthopedic Manual Physical TherapY is the most direct path to understand the true source of your pain or movement problem and begin to feel relief.

No guesses or assumptions about the cause of your pain.

No time wasted on cookie-cutter treatments that don’t fit your needs.

Graduates of the Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) program at Oakland University in Rochester, MI have completed a two-year post-doctoral residency that provides physical therapists with classroom and clinical training in the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Concept for Orthopedic Manual Therapy, an internationally recognized system. These therapists are experts in managing orthopedic injuries, chronic conditions, and surgical recovery.

As the patient, your OMPT experience begins with a thorough discussion in which the therapist listens to your goals and the history of your injury or problem. The therapist then performs specific tests to confirm which region and structure of your body is the cause of your pain. There are a number of structures in the human body that may produce movement-related pain including a muscle, tendon, ligament, joint surface, or nerve. Each of these structures requires a specific type of treatment when injured, so identifying the source is the most important first step in the recovery process. Then, the therapist will look to the rest of your body to assess for any factors that may be contributing to your pain.

Physiotherapy

Following examination, the therapist builds a treatment plan specific to your goals, the identified pain source and the related contributing factors. The treatment plan is modified based on any new information that emerges during the course of care, so you receive the most appropriate treatment during each session.

Physical Therapy

OMPT treatment includes hands-on techniques such as functional massage, spinal traction/decompression, joint stretching, and muscle stretching to reduce pain and tightness, improve circulation, improve motion, and support the body’s own healing process. Exercises are selected to directly address each patient’s needs, beginning with small movement re-training exercises and progressing to full body movements needed for the patient’s preferred activities. Education about the condition and its management is provided throughout care.

OMPT Treatment

Elevate Physical Therapy’s 50-60 Minute sessions allow time for an effective application of OMPT manual treatments, exercises, and ongoing education about your condition, all delivered one-on-one by your expert Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist.
